Dangerous Game HuntingIf you are a dedicated bow hunter, whether you hunt with a longbow, recurve, or a compound, you will have a hunting experience like no other in Africa. Our bow hunting safaris are mainly done on bow hunting only concessions. The game you will hunt while on your bow hunting safari is unlike any animals that you have hunted elsewhere. They are incredible tough, and very weary of there environment, as they are under constant pressure from predators. The concessions that you will be bow hunting only contain near 40 species, and include some or all of the Big Five. The hunting time that we like to hunt is from the beginning of May –September. Any later and you may have to deal with some wind issues. But we can arrange a bow hunting safari for you any time of the year.

The bow hunting safari typically starts out by visiting some waterholes, and checking for spoor. If a track looks promising then you may elect to sit in a well constructed ground blind or an elevated blind if you are in a dangerous game area, or you may be sitting in a ground blind on a trail. Typically you can expect your shots to be 30 yards or less, and the preferred shot is a quarting away shot, as most of the animals vitals are pushed farther forward and protected by the shoulder. So you must place your shot right at the line of the shoulder and rib cage. If you elect to stalk animals during your safari that can also be done, but you must realize that stalking some animals are more difficult than others. For your bow hunting safari to Africa, you must also realize that you may not always get close enough to your trophy animal for a good shot, and may end up going home without the some of the trophies you seek on your safari. However we stop at nothing to get you in close for the perfect shot for your bow hunting safari. You will be amazed at the numbers and species you see, but closing the distance on a bow hunt may prove difficult, even as the bow hunting concessions are set up with the bow hunter in mind. To bow hunt plains game you can use the same set up you hunt other game of the same size with. We prefer 60lb draw weight or more for the larger plains game, and 50-55 for the smaller. If your young ones want to hunt and can’t make the minimum draw weights there is another option and that is to get them a crossbow. Most of all it comes down to hunting with what you are comfortable with, and correctly placed shots. There will be an opportunity for you to shoot your bow once you have arrived in Africa for your bow hunting safari. Just to make sure that the luggage handlers didn’t handle your archery equipment to hard, use good quality cases to ensure that your bow hunting safari doesn’t start on a bad note.

Whether it’s your first bow hunting safari in Africa, or you are looking for another bow hunt, we can tailor your hunt to suit your needs. If you want to make it a family affair, and bring along young hunters or significant others we greatly encourage getting the whole family involved in a lifetime adventure, that only a bow hunting safari can offer in wilds of Africa. If you want to try and take greater trophies than you have in past bow hunting safaris we can concentrate on those animals, by working spoor, and getting you in the best area for the greatest trophy potential.

When preparing for your bow hunting safari to Africa, it is important to practice every kind of shot imaginable (from elevated position, on level ground, up hill, from standing, kneeling) any way you can think of. Practice your long range shots as it will make the typical short shots, 20 yards or less seem like a cake walk be comfortable out to 40 yards. Because when the adrenaline is racing through your body, you can fall back on all your practice, and breath, and release the arrow at the right time and watch it fly true.

If you are looking for a bow hunting safari for the Big Five we can make that dream come true. When you are ready to bow hunt dangerous game, we have the knowledge, experience, to get you in safely for a close, clean shot. There are different requirements for your archery equipment when it comes to dangerous game, as far as draw weight, the weight of arrow, and broadhead type.
